Rumble!: The Magazine that Defined the Men’s Adventure Genre

A book collection of men's adventure pulp from the world most spurious men's adventure magazine.

To say RUMBLE! was a unique magazine is an understatement.

To also say it published lurid, sexual covers or violent stories is an understatement.

To say RUMBLE! exploited and veered young men (and young women) into lives of crime and pushed delicate souls into a seedy world… Well, that’s stretching the truth to the point the rubber band breaks. To say it helped influence a literary genre… Well, yeah, that’s a foregone conclusion.

RUMBLE! was America’s most mythical men’s adventure magazine. This book is a collection of pulp men’s adventure stories originally published in its pages. The stories have been plucked from its illustrious and infamous run from the 40s to the 70s.

Stories in RUMBLE! deal with the dark attitudes and concepts that defined generations of crime, mystery, horror and science fiction pulp.

Rumble! features an impressive roster of authors contributing a diverse array of gripping stories. These include “Straight Jacket Justice” by Lothar Tuppan, “The Year That Clayton Delaney Died (A Hillbilly Jim Story)” by Mark Slade and Mick Rose, and “Raiders of the Lost Confederate Gold” by Tyson Blue. Kimberly Godwin delivers “Ruined Chances” and “Falling Into Darkness,” while Gavin Chappell presents “Telepaths of Titan.” And that’s just for starters.

But what are Men’s Adventure Magazines?

Men’s adventure magazines were a type of pulp magazine that featured stories about adventure and action. The men’s adventure genre was popular with young men and had covers that featured idealized versions of masculinity. Strong, handsome men wearing suits, barbarian queens, WWII air battles and more.

What is a Pulp?

Pulp magazines were printed on cheap paper and sold for a dime. They were common in the early twentieth century, and many of them featured action, horror, and crime stories. The term “pulp fiction” is derived from the name “pulp magazine.”

Now that you are in the know, treat yourself to this anthology of the mysterious men’s adventure magazine, RUMBLE!
